“Cancer didn’t survive me.”
“I was a runner. Healthy, active. I had just finished running a leg of a half-marathon and went for a routine checkup. I wasn’t nervous at all. But when the nurse came out with the results, she looked at the woman next to me and said, ‘You’re all clear.’ Then she looked at me and said, ‘Not you.’ That’s when everything changed. But I like to say this: By the grace of God, cancer didn’t survive me. I’m not just a survivor—I’m a conqueror.”
What God Has Done
“Before I even got the results, God gave me a dream. I was in a little rowboat in deep water, and the Lord said, This is just a tune-up. You’re going to be fine. Just stay with Me. That dream gave me peace through everything that came next.
I worked through treatment—sometimes answering emails while getting chemo. It was hard, but I never missed a single appointment. My blood counts always stayed high enough. My calendar always worked out. I truly believe the Holy Spirit orchestrated all of it.
And when the doctor (I was his last surgery before retirement!) couldn’t find my implants before reconstruction surgery, instead of rescheduling, he took off his scrubs, left the hospital, went and got them himself, and came back to finish the surgery. That’s how I saw God’s care—through the people who went the extra mile.”
Go-To Scriptures
Joel 2:21–27: “Do not be afraid… Surely the Lord has done great things.”
Deuteronomy: “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy…”
“Joel 2 is my life passage—because God promises restoration. When you bring His Word into your life, it’s like rain falling on your family.
And Deuteronomy reminds me that God’s mercy is not bound by time. He can heal in any moment, in any way He chooses. He’s not limited.”
How She Keeps Her Faith Strong
“The foundation is always Scripture. I’ve read the Bible cover to cover 8 or 9 times. That’s how I hear from the Holy Spirit.
I journaled every step—through a private Facebook group and in personal posts. I went to see Joyce Meyer after my first chemo, wrote about it, and just kept going.
I also covered my office wall with cards and prayers from friends and family. That wall carried me. And worship music—especially ‘How He Loves’ by Anthony Evans—filled my home like a shield.
Every day I reminded myself: Do not fear. That’s not a suggestion from God—it’s a command. So I’d say, Nothing bad is happening to me in this moment. In this moment, I will choose not to be afraid.”
Encouragement for You
“Yes, you’ve received hard news. But don’t let fear be the loudest voice. Wrap yourself in love—God’s love, the love of your people, even your pets. Love is your true defense.
And remember: You will be healed. Whether it happens here or in eternity, it will happen. That’s what gives peace. Even in the waiting.
Speak scripture out loud. Cover your space in truth. The enemy doesn’t want to hang around someone quoting God’s Word. If you’re walking this road, let it change you—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Ask God to grow you in joy—not just in suffering. That’s what I’m asking Him now: Can I grow from joy too?”
